Beautiful dark wine coloured flowers that age purple through to slate grey.  Flowers are very double and form pompoms with a green button eye and have a moderate fragrance.  Neat small bush with a few thorns and dark green foliage to 1.2 x 1.2m.  Well worth growing just for the flower colour.  Spring flowering.  Bred by Parmentier, Belgium 1840.
