Salvia murii

Salvia murii

IMG_7617A great little Salvia from the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa that grows to about 50 x 50cm with small olive-green leaves.  Violet blue flowers are born in two’s or three’s on short stems.  Very tough plant that is drought tolerant and frost doesn’t bother it at all as well.  Flowering from summer through to winter.  A well-drained sunny position would suit, although I have one in part shade as well and its does fine as well.  It is stretching for the sun a bit though.  Easily grown from cuttings.  Discovered by John Muir in the late 1920’s.
